The Story Behind Three Custom Cremation Bracelets for a Family

The Story Behind Three Custom Cremation Bracelets for a Family

A Cremation Bracelet Story: Three Generations, One Memory

Several years ago, a young man named Nik contacted me with a deeply personal request.

His family had recently lost someone very important to them — his grandmother.

Nik wanted to commission three custom cremation bracelets for his family so they could each carry a small remembrance with them.

One bracelet would be made for his grandfather, who had lost his wife.
Another for his mother, Laurie, who had lost her mother.
And a third bracelet for Nik himself.

Each bracelet would hold a small amount of cremation ash — a quiet, personal way to keep the memory of their loved one close.

Projects like this are never just about materials or design. They are about memory, connection, and honoring someone important.

Designing the Bracelets

Nik wanted the bracelets to feel connected as a family set, while still reflecting each person who would wear them.

Two bracelets shared the same design — one for Nik and one for his grandfather.

Nik chose a tobacco-colored leather, while his grandfather’s bracelet was made entirely in black leather, giving it a slightly more understated and classic look.

Laurie’s bracelet was designed differently, giving her piece its own distinct character while still belonging to the same family story.

Before beginning the final pieces, I created hand-drawn design sketches and worked through different braiding ideas and structural options to ensure the bracelets would be comfortable, durable, and meaningful to wear every day.

Exploring the Design

Custom projects often involve a lot of collaboration and discussion.

During the early design stage, I created braid and strap samples using scrap leather and recorded a short video walkthrough for Nik and Laurie so they could see how the different design ideas might look and move before I began the final bracelets.

This helped us refine the direction and ensure the final pieces would feel right for each member of the family.

The Finished Bracelets

Once the designs were finalized, each bracelet was carefully handcrafted in my studio.

Small details were added throughout the process, including engraving the underside of the men’s bracelets with the loved one’s initials — a subtle personal element known only to the family.

Memorial jewelry carries meaning far beyond the materials used to create it, and pieces like these are approached with that understanding from the very beginning.

An Unexpected Moment Years Later

Several years after the bracelets were made, Laurie reached out to me again.

She had lost her bracelet.

Because of the meaning it carried, we decided to recreate the piece as faithfully as possible using the original design.

I returned to my sketches and notes and began making a new bracelet for her.

And then something unexpected happened.

On the very day the replacement bracelet was ready to for shipping, Laurie found the original bracelet.

Now she has two.

Kind Review

Laurie later shared these words in a review:

I cannot even begin to express how thankful I am that my son found Lisa to create a one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry for my family. You can tell as soon as you meet Lisa that she puts her heart and soul into her work and that shows with each and every thoughtful piece of detail.”

Moments like this are a reminder that the objects we wear can hold far more than their physical form.

Sometimes they carry memory, connection, and love across generations.

Work like this is a quiet reminder of why I do what I do.

Where leather meets lineage.
